Ibis Hull City Centre

The location was the main plus for a gig. The staff were lovely, check-in was easy, and there’s a downstairs bar with food at reasonable prices. But the surrounding area was grotty and run down, and the seating in the lobby was cheap plastic chairs. Our room was tiny and poor quality, with a hard mattress and a toilet that wouldn’t flush properly. You could hear the lifts arriving from inside the room, and there were very few amenities. It wasn’t worth what we paid. I wouldn’t book it for a nice stay, more as a convenient place for contractors working in the city.

I wanted a very basic room, and that’s what I got. It was clean and comfortable enough for the price. The rate was very reasonable, and I liked having snacks available around the clock. The hotel is a short walk from the train station, with places to eat nearby. Everyone I spoke to was friendly and helpful.

Our previous stays here were good, but this one was a mess. In the first room, the toilet wouldn’t flush and the heating was broken, so it was freezing. They gave us a plug-in heater, but it barely helped. We were moved to room 14, where the heating stopped working after we switched it off to go out. When we got back, it wouldn’t turn on, so that room was freezing too. We had to use the heater again, with no real improvement. We weren’t told there would be a fire alarm test, and it panicked both me and my partner. The toilet had problems again, and when we asked for more toilet roll, we were given only one. Food isn’t included, so you have to pay separately or go out to get some. There’s no microwave, which left us having to get Pot Noodles. Please make sure all the rooms are up to the same standard.

We stayed for a night out in Hull and the location was great. The rooms are starting to look worn, but ours was clean and tidy. At that price, it’s hard to complain. There’s also a cheap 24-hour car park nearby, £3 for the day.
