We were moving around, but wished we’d used this lovely hotel as our base. Sharon at the front desk was so helpful, and the restaurant and tourist shop on site were great. The rustic rooms were lovely, and the staff really make the place. They all deserve a massive Christmas bonus! Our room was cold when we arrived, though it warmed up soon. I’m not sure if it’s connected, but the Loch Ness experience on site didn’t take cash, which was annoying. See you again, dear Drum friends!

Dinner was a bit disappointing. I ordered pizza, and honestly it was no better than an average supermarket one. The service was pretty good, though. I stayed one night in a room in one of the outbuildings. It was a bit dated and tired, but usable, and it was handy being able to park right outside.

The rooms were clean and decent value, but the food was a disaster. The hotel felt like stepping back into the 1980s. That retro feel was almost charming in a nostalgic way, but my impressions were mixed. Breakfast was easily the most disappointing part. I’ve never had a more lacklustre hotel breakfast. The sausages seemed like questionable “Loch Ness mystery meat,” and the whole spread felt like a medieval dormitory meal: sparse, outdated, flavourless and lacking variety. The restaurant and food quality badly need an upgrade to match the scenery around Loch Ness. :(

It felt dirty, and we got out as quickly as we could. There was mould in the bathroom and a dead spider in the bedding. The location is convenient, but that’s about all. It felt much more like a motel than a hotel. We wouldn’t stay here again.

The boys running the restaurant were great, and the pizzas were amazing. The restaurant itself was nice, if a bit outdated. The rooms are a bit odd, like a construction with electricity. Don’t expect a luxury hotel, more like glamping right above Loch Ness.
