The lodge is in an amazing location, with an exquisite menu and a very nice whisky selection. We came just for dinner and mostly ordered seafood. We loved all the dishes, especially the langoustine, lobster, and mussels mix. The sauces were so good we mopped them up with bread. The halibut was flaky and perfectly cooked, and the desserts balanced their flavours well. I almost wish the soufflé had been a little denser.

Danny at the front desk was especially understanding and offered satisfactory compensation. The staff were the only redeeming part of a very disappointing dinner, all friendly and polite. We tried the duck, ravioli, lamb, chocolate ale cake, soufflé, and cheese board, and every dish disappointed to some degree. The duck was cooked well but extremely bland. The ravioli was watery and tasteless, mostly mushroom, with no salt; the lamb was too salty and also short on flavour. The cake was boring, the soufflé far too eggy, and the cheese board looked haphazard, with nothing local or explained. It felt like something you could buy at Waitrose for £5. Having children around throughout dinner made the place feel more like a pub than fine dining. A different menu every day seems like a bad idea, or at least beyond the current chef’s ability. It’s clear why the Michelin star is no longer there. Sorry if I’ve got the name wrong, but I think the front desk staff member was Danny. The meal wasn’t worth the money. Better to go to the three chimneys for a nice meal on the Isle of Skye.

Those views across the loch and south Sleat were a highlight, and we made good use of the nearby trails. We stayed at Kinloch Lodge for three nights and four days in late April 2026, and found the whole experience peaceful, interesting, and restful. The breakfasts and dinners at the main house were wonderful, especially the venison, which was unlike any I’d ever had, even though I grew up eating it in Oregon. Next time, I’d stay longer and bring a sea kayak to explore the coast.

We’ve been regulars for Kinloch Sunday lunch, so we already expected a good meal. This visit, a late Mother’s Day treat from our son and his wife for Mum and me, was even better than expected. His wife had a separate menu made just for her as a vegan, and every dish was delicious. I had smoked trout to start, then gluten-free fish and chips, followed by panna cotta. We all enjoyed the meal, including the little treat for the newlyweds at the end. Only managed to photograph the puddings before everything else was gone. Hope we can come back soon.
