After a delicious lunch, including traditional Scottish cullen skink, Giacomo made us an offer we couldn't refuse, so we stayed overnight. The proprietor couple were friendly and accommodating, and we enjoyed chatting with Giacomo. They even washed our very smelly laundry, and the room was comfy. Breakfast was a tasty full cooked one with plenty of options, and there was Old Speckled Hen real ale. My fish and chips dinner was a bit disappointing, though my wife really enjoyed her dish. We'd stopped in for our complimentary half-pint of very ordinary lager and our certificates, and met two fellow Pennine Way trekkers. It was excellent value and the perfect end to our trek.

The meal was outstanding, especially the steak and ale pie, the best I've had. The portions are huge and very good value. We were looked after so well, with a 10/10 welcome and service. What an absolute gem of a hotel.

After a long day hiking St Cuthbert’s Way, we arrived tired and were made to feel right at home. The proprietor was friendly and chatty, and after a bit of persuasion we settled in the darts room for a few rounds. It turned into a delightful evening. The host and staff were wonderful, and the food and beer were good. A fantastic experience, and I'd wholeheartedly recommend spending an evening here, especially after a long day of walking.

I'm so glad we took the advice to stop for lunch here during our cycling trip. The food was fresh, delicious and fairly priced. My family enjoyed chatting with the owner while we ate, and he shared some great ideas for future trips. 10/10.
