Fairlight Lodge

Karl and Jude made us feel very welcome, and I'd happily recommend Fairlight Lodge to anyone staying in the area. We had a spotlessly clean room with plenty of tea, coffee and different biscuits. The fresh milk system was a real improvement on little cartons, and breakfast was a treat, with lots to choose from, freshly cooked food, tasty local sausages, real jam and homemade marmalade. We used the lodge as a base for three nights in Norfolk. It's peaceful, set far enough from town to feel quiet, but the centre is an easy 15-minute walk through 'The Walks' park.

The room had a very good heating system, and the tea, coffee, bottled water and biscuits were generously supplied. The pillows suited me, and there was free parking. Breakfast is included on some booking sites but not on others. Parts of the room felt a little tired, including the blind, carpet and mattress. There was also a constant motor noise somewhere nearby, day and night, possibly an extractor in the next room, which was annoying. I noted a few bathroom cleaning issues on the booking website and included photos. My check-in attempt was uncomfortable because I hadn't realised I was too early, though they did accommodate my later arrival using a key safe. This could be a five-star place.

Breakfast was cooked to order and decent, and it's an easy walk into town with parking available. I liked the environmentally friendly touches around the place: fresh milk in chilled flasks instead of little cartons, eco loo rolls, loose-leaf tea at breakfast, and homemade jam rather than tiny plastic pots. The room and facilities were lovely. I'd definitely recommend it.

I usually book a hotel, but this B&B felt like a home from home, so I'm coming back next week. I stayed in the lavender room for two days and will rebook for the next five weeks while I'm visiting clients. It was clean and tidy, with thoughtful bits like biscuits and a Kit Kat beside the tea and coffee, plus shower gel and shampoo in the shower room. The bed was comfy and the garden was right outside my door. Carl and Jude were superb hosts, and breakfast was excellent. Try Dawns home made jam, it's yum yum. Lovely room, service and hosts.
