Doubletree by Hilton Hull

Breakfast was lovely and the staff were friendly. I couldn’t get the room air conditioning settings to work, despite trying every option, and I got fed up. It felt a bit cold for me. My medium-rare steak was rare on one side and medium on the other, which averages out to medium rare, I suppose that’s how they do it in Hull. The shower area wasn’t perfectly clean.

Breakfast and dinner in the restaurant were great, and I’d recommend eating there. The location is good, though parking at the hotel costs £12 a night. There’s a larger private car park just across the road for £4.50 per night. There’s a nightclub on the fourth floor. You can hear it clearly in the fifth-floor lift lobby and corridor, but we were in a side-wing room and the noise didn’t reach us. I’d ask to move if I were near the lift or in a room next to the club. I’d stay again, but I’d choose a room carefully through the app so I was further away.

The room was faultless, and the bathroom was so nice I’d love to have one like it at home. The hotel was very clean, and all the staff were friendly and great. We were welcomed at check-in with two warm cookies. Shortly after we checked out, someone from reception texted to ask if everything had been okay, a lovely touch. I’ll definitely come back.

Dominic made a real difference to my stay while I was at the UKPON Conference. On the first night the room was uncomfortably warm, and he promptly sorted out the air conditioning and brought me a fan himself. The next evening, after the kitchen had closed, he arranged a pizza for some other guests while I was at the bar. Both were thoughtful gestures. The whole staff were polite, friendly, and provided excellent service. Dominic was professional, attentive, and clearly cared about guests. He’s a credit to the team, and I really appreciated how well I was looked after throughout my stay at the hotel.
