Malmaison Hotel Leeds

I've used the conference facilities twice over the last few weeks, and stayed overnight on one of those visits. The rooms were very nice and the beds comfortable. It's an easy walk into Leeds, and I'd recommend the hotel for conferences as well as a night away.

Breakfast was excellent, with a full English and other hot choices, plus a buffet of cereal, yogurt, fruit and juice. Everyone on staff was friendly and helpful. There are two multi-storey car parks next to the hotel and others nearby; the hotel has an arrangement with some of them that takes £10 off per day.

The rooms were clean, and the cleaning staff were kind. We were there for a wedding weekend, and the hotel's location is lovely, but eating and drinking downstairs was a letdown. The cocktails were nice, though there weren't enough staff and service took a long time. We'd booked a larger table for the night before the wedding. The menu was very small, and my burger arrived after an hour and 40 minutes, dry and burnt, with items missing. The dietary requirements we'd discussed beforehand were overlooked completely. When we raised the issues, a blonde haired waitress was dismissive, sighed at us and walked away. Such a shame, because the hotel itself is nice.

Breakfast was a highlight. The full English was just the right size, and the chef's grenola was honestly the best I've had anywhere. The only part I didn't like was the bar and breakfast room. It's in the cellar, so there's little natural light, and the dark, drab decor made it feel gloomy. It could do with brightening up. We picked this hotel for a concert at the arena, since it's about a 15 minute walk away and close to the city centre. Driving there was easy, and our Q Parks booking worked well. Check-in was quick, and our room was ready 30 minutes early. The upgraded room on the fourth floor was a good size, very clean, with a nice bathroom and no noise issues. The facilities were as expected, nothing flashy. It was a great overnight stay. We visit Leeds often and have stayed at plenty of hotels, so if the price stays competitive, we'd come back here.
