The staff were friendly and helpful, and the old manor house looks nice. But for the price, I’d choose Premier Inns, which are better and cheaper. This felt like a four-star hotel working hard to deliver a three-star stay. After a five-hour journey, we arrived at 9:30pm and found there was no food available in the restaurant or bar. The TV advertised sandwiches around the clock and a room-service menu, so we called down. We were told room service had stopped at 10pm but would restart at 11pm. I take pills at night, so I called at 11 to order a sandwich and drink. Ten minutes later, reception said they’d run out of the sandwich fillings and the drink I’d ordered. We were hungry and tired, and ended up going to bed. The room offered three Nescafé sachets, but no tea or decaf tea. I called reception and had a few tea bags delivered. We also wanted to use the advertised gym, only to learn there were no facilities at the hotel. They said we could drive two miles to a local gym they had a deal with. Breakfast was poor quality, too. We were seated beside the dirty-plate station, which did nothing to help with the hunger. The sausages and hash browns were overcooked in places and undercooked in others, and tasteless, as were the cheap bacon and beans.

The staff were helpful all the way from booking to the end of our Christmas party, and the service was quick and efficient. The food was lovely, too. I chose a starter that wasn’t what I expected, and they changed it for me even though they didn’t have to. They also put wine on the tables, which I hadn’t expected. The singers got everyone dancing, and we had a great night all round. I’ll definitely go back!

Our personalised private lunch was wonderful, with delicious food and amazing service. The team’s effort and attention to detail really showed, and we can’t thank them enough. Jason, the operations manager, went above and beyond to make sure our needs were met. We look forward to dining with you again soon.

Jay & Saoidettin looked after us so well during afternoon tea at the brasserie. They checked that everything was satisfactory and even brought my dad a special birthday treat. The staff were fantastic from the moment we arrived. We came with my parents yesterday to celebrate Dad’s 89th birthday. I’d definitely recommend this place to anyone after a relaxed afternoon tea.

The Jacobean room was beautifully arranged, and the buffet was excellent. One of our family members has complex allergies, and the staff took great care to prepare a meal she could eat. We held our mum’s funeral tea here yesterday. Everyone was kind and considerate from the booking right through to the day itself. I’d definitely recommend the hotel for an event like ours.
