It’s a warm, cosy, quiet place, and I enjoyed my stay. The staff are nice, though they could use a more positive spirit. I think the location and value are great, and the place has potential, but it needs some TLC and a low-cost renovation. It might help the owner fund improvements by charging extra to rent towels or use Wi-Fi. It could be turned into a three-star hostel. I’d come back one day :-).

We left as soon as we arrived and refused to stay. The room was unclean, with visible pubic hairs left in the bathtub, suggesting it hadn’t been properly cleaned. We also felt unsafe outside, where people we thought might be drug users or have serious issues were gathered and creating an intimidating atmosphere. The property looked nothing like its online description or pictures. Because of the cleanliness, the misleading advertising, and the safety concerns, we’re seeking a full refund. I’d strongly advise people to avoid this place.

We barely slept because doors kept banging through the night and the broken radiators made the room too hot. The bathroom radiator was stuck on full, and its shower head had been taped together. The beds weren’t comfortable either. On arrival, a group was smoking by the entrance and we had to squeeze past. We got the impression the hotel might be housing homeless people or migrants. The receptionist looked like he’d rather be anywhere else. The room and bathroom were clean enough, but for what you pay, that may be all you get. We won’t be back.

I’ve stayed here a lot over the years, and this visit was in one of the newly refurbished rooms. It’s good to see money going into improving the place, and the room is great value for the price. The brand-new mattresses are very firm, though. I hope the owners tidy up the exterior too, so it doesn’t put people off as they arrive.

The hallways reek of cigarettes, and the rooms are dated. On our floor, a woman followed us and tried to come along to our room. I told her that wasn’t happening. We asked to switch rooms after the receptionist read our room number out in front of her, but he said there was no need because she’d been told not to knock on doors and he was watching the CCTV. He said she’d been placed there by the council. We managed to convince him we needed to move because we felt unsafe. Update: There was a breeze coming in through the improperly fitted room window, and outside sounds were really loud. The beds were hard, a bulb was missing above the bed, and the toilet seat was peeling apart from lack of care. The man who’d promised to watch the CCTV and keep us safe left at 10/11. He also lied about looking for a bulb, saying it was an electrician’s job and there weren’t any. DONT STAY HERE. UNSAFE.
