The Bull At The Green

The Sunday roast was generous, came with a nice choice of sides, and was good value. We dropped in at short notice today and got excellent service. The cosy country feel, roaring open fire, and picture postcard Sussex village setting made for a relaxed lunch. Recommended.

The pub service was really good and the food was excellent during our three-night stay at the Bull. The room, though, could have been better: the mattress needs replacing, the shower head kept dropping, and the TV was in a silly position. It was only somewhere to sleep, in the end.

There wasn't much of a welcome at the inn. On Nov 1st, during the Newick bonfire event, we were told to leave the bar early and ended up outside in a cold drizzle. At about £7 a pint, the beer felt like robbery. We went to the nearby alternative pub instead, where they greeted us properly and charged normal prices.

The old inn is perfectly placed, not far from the bluebell railway, and we'd happily stay again. Staff were friendly and accommodating, and made us feel very welcome. We had a lovely evening meal, Barnsley Chop and Salmon.
