We saw jockeys riding horses through the village for training early in the morning, a charming and unusual sight. Middleham's horse racing heritage is clear, and Middleham Castle is well worth visiting. Walk up the hill for lovely countryside views, or head to the nearby Yorkshire Dales for scenic walks. The location makes for a peaceful country break. We spent one night at The Wensleydale Hotel, and the whole place felt warm and welcoming. The bed was very comfortable, the room spotless, and it's very dog-friendly. Service was excellent, friendly and attentive from beginning to end. Dinner was one of the best parts of our stay. The starter, main course and dessert were all delicious and beautifully presented. Highly recommended for a relaxing stay with character and great food.

The decor could use an update, though it also adds to the building's comfort and character. Our rooms and beds were clean and comfortable, with everything we needed. We booked a double and a single, both at the back of this historic building, so they were very quiet. The village itself is sleepy, with little noise anywhere. Check-in and the welcome were flawless, and the hosts and staff couldn't have been kinder. Breakfast was plentiful, tasty and well cooked. I'd recommend it and would come back without hesitation.

The food in the Tack Room was a highlight, with fresh, locally sourced ingredients and outstanding cooking. Fiona and Monty gave us attentive, professional service from the moment we arrived, and the whole experience was second to none. Our double superior room with a castle view was clean, comfortable and full of character. My partner Lou and I will return for a longer stay, and we're looking forward to seeing Fiona and the team again.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable family dinner and hope to return when we're in the area. The food was gorgeous, the atmosphere relaxed and the service warm. Two people in our group have Allium Intolerance, and the hosts kindly planned and printed a whole menu of options for them, which was wonderful.

We ate here while staying in Middleham, and the food was absolutely stunning. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. What a lovely hotel, we'll definitely be back!
