The setting and toilets were very clean, and the service was friendly and discreet, with no pressure to hurry. We visited Lifton Hall today, 7th February, for afternoon "farmers" tea. We had booked ahead, so after a warm welcome and choosing from a good range of teas, the food arrived a few minutes after the hot drinks. There was a very impressive mix of savoury and sweet items, each explained to us, and everything tasted excellent. They offered refills on the hot drinks too. We really enjoyed it and can highly recommend it. We'll be back, possibly for Sunday lunch.

Dogs are welcome, there's parking, and if I'm in the area again I'd love to stay here. The pub has a lovely cosy feel, and our host Richard was attentive and very pleasant. His partner Robert is the chef, and I have to applaud him for a fantastic Sunday lunch. Everything was perfectly cooked, especially the tender, slightly rare beef, with fresh vegetables done just right. If I lived nearby, I wouldn't cook Sunday lunch myself again.

We stayed two nights a couple of weeks ago for a wedding nearby, and the place was outstanding. Our room was fantastic. We chose the more expensive one for the special occasion, and although it cost more, it was worth it. The food was awesome, and all the staff were so friendly. Brilliant place to stay, definitely recommend.

The roast was cooked perfectly, with medium-rare beef, tender pork and fresh apple sauce. The rich gravy was plentiful, and the seasonal vegetables were delicious. There were also honey-glazed parsnips, two roast potatoes and a Yorkshire pudding. I did miss having mash, new potatoes or crackling, though. Dessert was homemade apple and raspberry crumble with vanilla ice cream, and it was delicious. I turned up at 1:40 on the first Sunday in February without a booking. At first the barmaid said food wouldn't be served until 2:30, but after I pushed a little and looked disappointed, she checked with the kitchen and they agreed. I ordered a Guinness and the double roast option, beef and pork, and it arrived in fifteen minutes. The portion was hearty. The bar was almost empty, so I expected a quiet lunch. About twenty minutes before I finished, a birthday party of eight arrived and made a lot of noise, spoiling the atmosphere. They seemed unaware of how loud they were. I paid and left quickly, but I still highly recommend the place.

The rooms feel homely but have plenty of space, with decor that's been thought through. The bed was very comfortable, the breakfast was great, and the hosts were lovely.
