A quirky spot for a few friends or family to get away. My room felt warm and welcoming, with plenty of beds, and there’s a restaurant and bar right there. The staff were keen to help, especially Jo at reception, who deserves a big thank you. It’s an easy walk into town along Bold Street for food and shopping. There are clubs nearby, so keep that in mind, though I found the hotel relaxing. I switched from the first floor to the second for a more private view.

Ava and Joe were so friendly and helpful, and gave our weekend away a lovely start. The location was great, with everything within walking distance, and we’d be happy to come back. It was our first stay here and we had a good time, though the room could have been nicer and the fridge didn’t work. Our room was right above bars and clubs, and the sound came through the windows as if it were in the room, making sleep difficult. Better windows would really have improved the stay.

The nightclub in the building kept going until 5am, so I barely slept, and the room was small and dark with no natural light, despite having paid for a suite. The taps were broken, nothing seemed to work, and there was filth everywhere. It was honestly the most disgusting hotel I’ve ever been in, and not fit to stay in. I checked out a day early after a horrendous stay and still haven’t been refunded for the night I didn’t use. When I contacted them about the refund, they offered me a free stay there again. Adding insult to injury.

The staff were mostly friendly and helpful, but the rest of our stay was awful. The room was in poor repair: damaged flooring, a broken bedside light, stained towels, no TV remote, and peeling ceiling paint. We also had to pay an unannounced £50 deposit, and I wasn’t sure I’d get it back. My son and I booked the Arthouse hotel for its themed rooms, expecting something quirky and fun. Instead, we were on the second floor above and next to a nightclub, with loud bass thumping all night until 5am. We both slept badly because of the constant noise. The description and strangely high Google rating don’t make the nightclub situation clear. Avoid this hotel at all costs, even if you only need somewhere to sleep after a boozy night out. Especially then.

We were a hen party of girls in our mid 30s, and the location worked well for going out, with plenty of pubs and clubs along the roughly 15 minute walk from Matthews street. We arrived before check-in and the receptionists kindly let us check in early. There’s a £50 deposit per person that wasn’t mentioned when we booked. The music from the nightclub the hotel sits on top of went on until 5am, which ruined it for us. If we’d known, we’d have stayed elsewhere. Maybe it’s fine if you’re so drunk you pass out in the early hours and don’t hear it, but otherwise I’d give it a swerve. The room was dated and grotty, with broken flooring and a general need for a good clean. The bathroom door wouldn’t shut, and the grubby shower hung over the bath from the ceiling, with no curtain. Definitely not a luxury hotel.
