The room looked really tired and smelled damp. There was wood under the mattress, the plug sockets were broken, and there was only one chair. The bathroom was big, but the shower cubicle was too small.

The suites are pretty basic, but that’s fair for the price. We stayed in Liverpool for a concert, and it was much more reasonably priced than other places nearby. There’s plenty of free on-street parking, too.

Our room was dusty and the bathroom was tiny. We stayed in September 2023, and the room stayed freezing from check-in to check-out. The central heating ran off a main boiler that was switched off, and reception acted as if they didn’t understand the problem. Other guests told us their rooms were cold too, and one said there was mould growing on a wall.

It’s clean and gives you a roof over your head, but everything else feels old and a bit worn. The place doesn’t look as good as the pictures. It’s laid out like an HMO, so using the toilet means risking a bump on the bathroom sink or a scratch from the toilet roll holder. Since it’s managed from another hotel, it feels quite remote and unsafe. Everyone gets the door code, and the door doesn’t shut automatically, so it was often left open during our stay.

The best part was the shower. The beds were uncomfortable, and for £84 for two nights, the room was just okay. It had two creaky single beds, a small bathroom, drawers, a wardrobe and a fridge with a broken mini-freezer door. The fridge had been switched off, so the freezer had defrosted. There were a few tea bags and coffee sachets. We collected the codes from Mountford hotel. The staff there were friendly. When we got to grove suites, I phoned to ask whether we could park on the property because the gates were shut and there was no sign saying we could. We gathered our bags and went in. The building smelled very musty, and our attic room was on the third floor. The kitchen needed a good clean, including the surfaces and chopping board, which made me think the plates and other things needed washing before use.
