The rooms and the common areas above the ground floor feel like they haven’t been touched since the hotel opened. It was built around 2007, and the dated decor shows. Most rooms are quite compact, so you’d want a ‘premium’ one if extra space matters. Soft drinks are included, plus a couple of beers in the premium rooms. There are around 140 rooms, I think. The price partly reflects the tired look, but with so many newer hotels in the city at the same or lower rates, the difference stands out. They need to refurbish the rooms soon. I used to stay here all the time but hadn’t been back since 2024, so it was good to reassess after a gap. The staff are excellent, as they always have been. They remember you and are accommodating, which is lovely to see is still true. The location is pretty good too, not far from Castle Street for food or Moorfields for a train, and there’s good parking nearby. The bar is decent, and the fitness room is good. The restaurant was Marco Pierre White, but it’s recently become the in-house Chapel + Barrel. It has potential, but needs to build its part more to bring people in. Marco had brand recognition and Chapel + Barrel doesn’t. Still, the chicken burger was nice. There’s also a terrace out front they should make more of in summer. It’s certainly not a bad hotel, and I’ve got a lot of nostalgia for it. I’d have no qualms about staying again or recommending it, but manage your expectations.

The location works well for the city centre, and the nearby NCP liverpool central parking is only a three minute walk. The hotel discount helps. Those were the main positives for me. I booked because of the good reviews and hadn’t stayed with the "Indigo" chain before. On arrival it felt more like IHG’s budget chain, like a travelodge, with tired hallway carpets and cheaply decorated rooms. In the shower there was mould, broken flooring and hair left by previous guests. The continental buffet breakfast had hot food and coffee by order, but service was incredibly slow. I’d rather help myself. I raised all this with reception and they just stared blankly. At check-in I was told there was a complementary mini bar, but it only had water and one can of diet coke, which was disappointing. I come to Liverpool regularly for work and wouldn’t stay here again.

The bar and restaurant were nice, and the food was delicious. Our room was lovely and clean, with a really comfortable bed and a great shower and bathroom. The staff were super friendly and welcoming, and checked us in early at no extra charge. Excellent experience all round. I’d definitely recommend the hotel and stay again.

A great location, but we were disappointed by several problems. The toilet, sink and shower kept blocking during our stay, and the TV and wifi gave us a lot of trouble. We’d asked the staff to put something in the room for a birthday and were assured they’d help, but there was nothing when we arrived.

The breakfast tasted good, though the choice wasn’t very rich. The hotel is clean and in the historic part of Liverpool. Rooms are somewhere in between, neither large nor small.
