The central location is a real plus, with plenty of good restaurants and bars around, and booking early can get you a good price. I was pleasantly surprised on arrival to find I’d been upgraded to a premium room. The staff I met were friendly and efficient. My room had a Beatles theme that gave it character, and it was clean and had everything I needed: a hairdryer, iron, tea and coffee, bottled water, a dressing gown and slippers. I also appreciated the security. You need to swipe your key to enter the hotel and use the lifts.

The room was chilly on the first night, but I asked about a heater and they put one in and switched it on while we were out, which made things much more comfortable. The hotel is spotless and nicely designed, and the service was lovely. Special thanks to Virginia at the front desk for being so helpful. It’s a great location, just across the road and around the corner from the centre, and the price was good too.

I’ve stayed here before and would use it again. The location works well for getting to the centre and for work, the rooms are decent for the price, the beds are comfy, and free coffee is a nice bonus. The pillows seemed a bit small, though. Check-in was a problem on this visit and the last one. This time I was told to sit and wait, then watched staff check in people who arrived after me. They need a better system. In room 504, the bathroom sink drained very slowly, the air con clicked loudly enough that I had to switch it off to sleep, and the kettle wouldn’t turn itself off after boiling, which felt like a health and safety concern. The floor near the top of the bed was quite dusty and there were hairs in the shower. I also took a photo of the cracked TV bezel, since the TV in my previous room had the same damage and I didn’t want to be charged for it. I reported the problems when leaving, and the person I spoke to said they’d look into the slow sink. Despite these smaller issues, it was a decent stay and I’ll use the hotel again.

A freezing, miserable stay, and the hotel’s response made it worse. We booked two nights in Liverpool and were put in a room adapted for disabled guests. The heater barely worked, even though it was -1°C outside, and the room never warmed up. When I tried to shower, the water was cold. I got under it several times, but standing in that freezing room with cold water was torture. I went to reception, and a woman said she’d come up to check in five minutes. I waited more than an hour and she never came. When I returned, she said the water only heated to 42 degrees to prevent disabled guests from hurting themselves. That would have been understandable if the water had actually been 42 degrees, but it was cold. She kept insisting it was 42 and said there was nothing she could do because the hotel was full. She hadn’t even come upstairs to check. We later emailed the manager to explain what happened. She replied that we’d been offered another room and refused it. That’s not what happened. Who’s lying, the manager or the staff? I wouldn’t have turned down a room with hot water and proper heating. After we responded, we heard nothing more. No apology or compensation. They left me waiting for over an hour, then dismissed what I was saying about a cold shower in a room meant for disabled guests. It was the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in.

It’s right in the centre, so sightseeing and shopping are easy from here. I had a great night’s stay, and the staff were friendly and helpful. At breakfast they didn’t have oat milk, so they kindly gave me some of their own. Mavis at the front desk was lovely ❤️
