We asked the property for a refund as soon as we saw the condition of the apartment, but nobody replied, even though they say they want the chance to put things right. It felt like a serious lack of care and maintenance, especially for what we paid, and the place was nothing like the photos and description. I’d advise people to avoid it until the owners make major improvements and take guest feedback seriously. It was dirty, with marks on the floors, walls and tables, and seemed as if it hadn’t been cleaned or looked after for a long time. There was broken glass, broken lamps and cupboards that didn’t work properly. Wallpaper was peeling, the windows wouldn’t open, and the apartment felt stuffy. Several sockets didn’t work, the door handles were broken, and the front door lock didn’t feel safe. The beds were rock hard and impossible to rest on. A faulty bedside lamp hung over the bed, so I kept hitting my head on it, and the bed creaked more than any I’ve slept in. The sofa wasn’t comfortable either.

Abdul at reception was a real highlight, friendly and happy to help with our questions. That excellent service made the stay more enjoyable. Terlon Apartments are clean and tidy, and the central Liverpool location is ideal for exploring the city. I had a thoroughly positive stay and would recommend it if you want a well-kept apartment and a welcoming reception team.

The noise from the rooms facing Mathew street carries on until the early hours, so this isn’t a good choice if you plan to sleep at night. Our room also had a dirty toilet with poo in it when we arrived, a ripped doona cover, and dirty walls that badly need painting. The rooms look nothing like the advert and are very run down and don’t seem clean. Although there’s a full kitchen, it had very few utensils: no tea towel, spatula or sink plug. Some cupboard doors were hanging down, too. For what we paid, it definitely wasn’t worth it.

The accommodation itself was clean, with good facilities, and the location is excellent for a Liverpool visit. The apartment was great. Getting inside was another matter. The check-in details were meant to come through Booking.com on the day we arrived, but they never did, so we couldn’t enter the building. The number we were given only played a recording, and when we finally got in as another guest was leaving, there was nobody at reception. The website says reception is unattended from 5 to 6pm but otherwise open 24 hours. We were there at 9.45am just to leave our luggage until check-in, and it was a huge inconvenience with no one reachable.

We couldn’t get two keys for the room, which made it awkward when we wanted to do different things. You have to coordinate or leave the key at reception, and that desk isn’t always open. I haven’t run into that at other hotels. The room was clean, roomy and comfortable, and the city-centre location suited us. Even though it faced a busy street, the outside noise wasn’t too bad and we slept fine. The room rate reflected the budget-level facilities, so we thought it was good value. Having a kitchen was the best part, especially for an easy breakfast, though it isn’t equipped for cooking. We hadn’t planned to cook anyway.
