The Mountford Hotel

We ended up staying elsewhere after a frustrating few hours. My mother had booked a room for two, but my younger sister came along too. The room we were given had a double bed and a single bed, so we asked if we could pay extra for a third person and breakfast. There seemed to be room for all three of us, and we explained that we were a family, a mother and her two daughters aged 23 and 16. They refused and said we’d need a separate room, which we declined. Four hours later, after I’d booked and paid for another hotel, they called to say we could stay in the same room after all. Thanks for the ruined night, pointless discussion, and illogical handling of the situation. Whatever the hotel looks like or the service might be like in future, I wouldn’t recommend it. The managers seemed to lack logic. 🤡

The location was good, and the staff were very helpful. There was a choice of private parking or free street parking too. Our room was clean, but its decor was dated or damaged, and damp seemed to have been an issue there before. The hotel feels very tired and badly needs an update. The other rooms we saw had a similar look.

The hotel was welcoming and well kept, and everyone on staff was friendly and helpful while we were there. Our room was simple but comfortable, clean and quiet, just right for a good night's rest. The area felt peaceful and safe, and with the city centre, shops, bars and restaurants nearby, it was easy to go out for a meal or a drink. Parking on site and on nearby streets was really handy. I’d have liked a bit more choice at breakfast, though what was served was fine. We really enjoyed our stay and I’d happily return or recommend it to anyone after a quiet, well-located place.

The quiet neighbourhood was a real plus, with two large parks nearby that we enjoyed walking through. It’s about a 10-minute bus ride from the city centre. I found the room and its furnishings charming: the hotel is in a very old, largely wooden building that has been remarkably well preserved, and the elegant furniture, beautiful rug, curtains, windows and fittings all felt like quality pieces rather than standard hotel furnishings. After seeing the room, I understood the £50 deposit mentioned in the terms, even though it had surprised me at first because few hotels I’ve stayed in have asked for one. We found the hotel by chance on a short trip to Liverpool with my son. I was very pleased with the stay and would choose it again if I return to Liverpool.
