Hampton Hotel

The bathroom was so cramped there was hardly room to stand, and the noise insulation was awful. I could hear someone snoring next door all night. The bed creaked every time I shifted, so getting any sleep was impossible. After that experience, I wouldn’t put the place above £10 a night. I wouldn’t give it a star.

The room was cold at night because there was no heater, and smoke smell hung around the hotel and corridors. I also kept losing the Wi-Fi, couldn’t get hold of anyone on the listed phone number to warn them I’d arrive late, and could hear conversations from the hall and next room. The bed was very firm and left my back uncomfortable. There was no soap or hand wash in the bathroom, and no iron either. The ensuite room did have a kettle and coffee sachets, which was a small plus. But the missing basics and upkeep issues made the stay uncomfortable.

We found the room unclean, with dirty, old bedding and used beer glasses left behind. The hotel seemed a bit rough, and nobody was available when we tried to reach them. We chose to drive an hour to another hotel instead of staying.

Breakfast was nice, and the bed was clean and comfortable. There was a kettle with tea things in the room. I had brought soap, which was just as well, though you can ask for it at reception. The wardrobe felt flimsy and was coming apart. Guests arriving at 2am were pretty noisy, and I could hear them well. Still, the room was fine.
