The Arrochar Hotel

The restaurant ended up being a real bonus on my motorbike tour around Western Scotland. For about £35 in 2025, we got two courses and drinks, and the food was genuinely good. The bacon wrapped haggis stuffed chicken looked plain and simple, but had loads of flavour. The room was okay, clean enough and with a comfortable bed, though a bit dated. I’d booked it as a budget option and was pleasantly surprised. The loch view and being close to loch Lomond were big pluses too.

The views over the loch were beautiful, and dinner and breakfast were both really good. Everyone was so friendly, from the very welcoming reception to the super efficient restaurant staff. The hotel is old and could use a wee bit of TLC, but otherwise I had a fantastic overnight stay.

The bedding looked like it was soaked in urine, and the door wouldn’t even lock from inside. There was a sign on the window saying it had been broken since August last year, seven months ago, and it still hadn’t been fixed. Cute location, but swerve this place if you can. The room is horrible.

The staff really can’t do enough for you. The barman was great, and the three lasses on reception were lovely. The locals were dead friendly too, and were interested in hearing about our winter climbing. We were, I think, two of the only English dudes there, and we were always chatting with someone. It felt like a real warm welcome all round. We’ve stayed here a few times and enjoyed it every time. This visit was at the end of November, when a mate and I went Munro bagging nearby. The rooms are just fine, if a bit dated, and there are a few tired bits and older decor around the place. At this price, I barely noticed. It’s great value, with an awesome breakfast. We had the full Scottish each day, help yourself, with a good choice of juices, plus cereal, toast, fruit and yogurts if you prefer. Even the machine coffee is well nice. There’s a good atmosphere in the evening. They get lots of coach trips, and often have a live singer with everyone joining in on “Sweet Caroline... da da da.” Great stuff. I’d call it a budget hotel with absolutely premier service. We’ll be back, the mountains, staff, whisky and haggis are calling.
