Amsterdam Hotel

Earls Court Underground is only a 3-4 minute walk away, and we’d happily return if we get the chance. We stayed just under a week and were pleased with the place. The owners were kind and helpful, and our room was a decent size, clean, and had what we needed. We didn’t find the walls thin, despite what others have said. The hotel and rooms use modern PIN-code entry. Our suitcase was brought up as soon as we arrived, and staff also helped when we’d booked the wrong departure date, even though changes usually aren’t allowed.

The shower had decent pressure, it’s close to a train station, and the price is the only real upside. The room was small, which we expected, but everything else seemed due for repairs or an update. There was one shabby little table and one old chair for two people, marks and drawings on the walls, and a lumpy, squeaky bed with broken springs and a questionable frame. We only got two thin pillows. In the shower, the handles were broken, the fan didn’t work, the seals were failing, and the fittings weren’t properly attached to the wall. It needs painting and a serious revamp. We didn’t feel safe in the ground-floor room: the window had no lock and the door had no deadbolt. The walls were so thin we could hear people next door and upstairs. There wasn’t a proper reception, though the one staff member I saw was nice.

The bathroom was spacious and really clean, and we could leave our bags before check-in and after checkout without any trouble. The Underground is about two minutes away, though traffic noise does come through the windows a little. The employee was very nice and helpful, and we could always reach him by phone. It’s not a modern hotel, but we felt the price was fair for what we got, and it met our expectations. They said they’d been working on the room problems for a month, and you can see progress.

The staff were the best part, all the guys were really kind. We had a great stay. The room was clean and good, and the location made things easy, just a one-minute walk to the Underground.
