Courthouse Hotel Shoreditch

Getting around from the Courthouse was easy: it’s in a central part of Shoreditch, with buses and the train right nearby. There are plenty of local cafes, and Redchurch and Columbia Streets are a short walk away for clothes, gifts, general shopping, and food. The spacious rooms have a separate large bathroom, a king-size bed, and a lounge area. Check-in and checkout were seamless, and reception and concierge staff were helpful, though nobody helped with our luggage. If you need parking, ask reception about the hotel’s arrangement with the local school. The room furnishings could use attention. Some furniture had chipped paint, and there were stains on the lounge seating. Our main hassles, though, were housekeeping and maintenance. We had to ask three times to get the shower fixed because it wasn’t draining properly, and repeatedly remind housekeeping to leave more than one bath towel for two guests. The curtain wasn’t working either, but it was fixed when we asked. Everything was dealt with promptly, though it left me wondering whether management checks the rooms regularly. Some housekeeping staff couldn’t speak English, which made it frustrating to ask for extra towels. We stayed over Christmas and New Year, when many nearby cafes and restaurants close on public holidays, so finding local food could be tricky. We only ate at the hotel restaurant twice. Breakfast there was nearly gone by 10am, so go early.

The spa was beautiful, the rooms were clean and a good size, and the hotel was close to everything we needed. Service was great too. A kind woman at reception gave us a late checkout.

We only spent one night at the courthouse hotel in Shoreditch, and I wish we’d stayed longer. From our phone conversations through checkout, the colleagues were so polite and complimentary, going above and beyond and making the short stay feel longer. The spa area was amazing too. I’d highly recommend it, especially for couples, and we’ll definitely come back.

The bed was unbelievably comfortable, and the staff were fabulous. We also had a spacious room in a great spot for getting around London, all at a fair price. The main letdown was staffing at breakfast. There often weren’t enough people, so we waited for buffet food to be refilled and couldn’t get a decent hot cup of tea or coffee. The hotel felt five-star, but breakfast was more Travelodge style.
