Darlington Hyde Park

I felt unsafe here, and wouldn’t stay again. I suspect staff took a pouch from my suitcase to bully me. When I got back to the room, my backpack had been tossed on the floor and used as a doorstop. My suitcase had clearly been opened, and my toiletry bag was gone. The front desk brushed me off. They wouldn’t check the security cameras or even leave a note for the manager, so I filed a police report. The staff also made us feel unwelcome from check-in: several pairs who arrived after us were taken straight to their rooms with smiles, while we waited two hours. Their expressions soured whenever they had to speak with us. The room was small and rundown, including the bathroom. At least the uncarpeted floor didn’t hold any bad smells. Getting to Paddington takes about a 10-minute walk just to reach the station entrance, and longer if you need to cross the huge station to the right Underground platform. There are restaurants nearby, though they’re expensive and only passable. Breakfast was passable English food; I had the eggs. Staff visibly pointed at us and gossiped.

The location was a big reason I booked, and it really is excellent, with Paddington Station, tube stops, Hyde Park and more close by. I had a double room for four nights at a good price, and was blown away by how friendly everyone was. The room was beautiful, the water pressure was great, and breakfast was phenomenal. I’ll definitely stay here again.

Ariana was professional and efficient, and Angel was a great help too. We liked the hotel so much that we’ve already booked two more visits. We came because of the strong reviews, and can confirm the good things people say are all true.

My wife, her mother, and sister had only planned a short stay at this lovely, well-located hotel. On Sunday, their last night, her mother suddenly became very ill and needed urgent medical care. The night staff were incredibly supportive and helpful. She was admitted to hospital, and though checkout was meant to be at 11 a.m. Monday, my wife stayed in London until Saturday. The hotel arranged a comfortable room for her and let her extend it one day at a time. My wife had never encountered such caring staff or such genuine kindness. They were a huge comfort through a difficult time, and without their help she wouldn’t have managed as well. She returned to Denmark today, and her sister has taken over the room. We’re all very grateful, and my wife will definitely stay here again when she next visits London. Thank you so much.
