Generator London

From the moment I arrived, Generator Hostel felt lively and welcoming, with lots of positive energy. The whole crew were friendly and helpful, which made my stay feel special. Joao deserves a particular thank you: he was kind, always smiling, and genuinely glad to help with anything. His warmth and professionalism made me feel at home. I highly recommend Generator Hostel to anyone coming to London, whatever their age. It’s a lovely place with great vibes and people, and I’d happily stay again.

I spent five nights at Generator Hostel London, and its location is easily the best thing about it. It’s close to Russell Station and Kings Cross Saint Pancras station, and the Brunswick centre is right nearby, along with lots of good places for food and drinks. You can get into the centre quickly and explore the city from here. Our private room was okay, and the bunk bed was comfortable. It’s very dark around the bed, though, with no proper reading light, so there isn’t much to do before sleep besides scroll on your phone. The showers were cold, with no hot water in any of them, so be prepared for that. The downstairs bar was fine, but the food wasn’t great. We tried the Mediterranean pizza, and it was bad. The price was okay, about 10£ for a pizza in central London. The Camden Pale Ale was great. If you just need somewhere to rest between exploring the city, this is an okay option. Keep your expectations low and come ready to spend your time out in the city, and you’ll be fine.

The café at Generator London was a highlight for me. The menu feels thoughtfully put together, and the food was flavorful and well prepared by what seems like a very skilled chef. Prices were very affordable, too. Breakfast was excellent, with plenty of variety and great quality. Service was attentive, friendly, and efficient from the moment I ordered. I highly recommend it for the food, service, and value. It exceeded my expectations.

I only booked here because it was a last minute trip and they still had beds available. The other reviews were right. There were bad smells in both the bedrooms and bathrooms. I stayed on the ground floor, where staff access doors were left open all the time, making it easy for anyone to get into the showers. The showers were tiny, dark, and leaky, and the doors wouldn’t lock properly. The chain’s management needs to look into how the London branch is run. It seriously needs help.
