The facilities were nice, and most of the staff were incredibly kind and helpful. But I couldn't get a proper breakfast on several days because two women working there repeatedly didn't know what to offer me for my lactose allergy, even though I'd told the hotel months ahead and reminded reception when I arrived. On the first morning, they said I could have fruit, then mentioned some cereal, but there was no lactose-free milk or bread. Reception then assured me they'd provide plant-based milk and lactose-free bread. The next morning, the same two staff members insisted I should have a full English breakfast, although I'd booked continental, and said I could only eat the potatoes. They seemed panicked when I explained what reception had arranged. After a lot of back and forth, they brought a little almond milk so I could have cereal. A different staff member handled breakfast the following day and immediately brought lactose-free bread and milk. I was relieved and thought it was sorted. On my last day, the two women were back and didn't seem to know what I could eat. I asked for the same bread as the day before, but they brought another kind. When I asked if it had lactose, we went in circles for 20 minutes because they kept telling me it was gluten-free. I explained again that I was allergic to lactose, not gluten, and even pointed out the bread I'd eaten the day before at another table, but they still couldn't work it out. It's a shame, because the rest of the staff were fantastic and I really appreciated their kindness.

Breakfast had lots of classic British food and was very good, though I missed having beans. The dining area was a bit small, so we ended up sitting in the hall. I was there with my family of four, and our room was big enough. Room service was also very good: while we were out, they made the beds and left water and biscuits for free. Overall, we had a very good stay.

The reception staff were very friendly, and my room was comfortable. I was upgraded to a suite during my one-night work stay. The hotel is just off Russell Square in a fairly quiet spot, only a short walk from the British Museum.

The two staff members I dealt with were kind, and I did get a spacious room. That's about where the good points end. Priceline led me to believe this was a four-star hotel, but it felt closer to one star. The rooms are extremely old, dusty, dingy, and in poor shape. My street-level windows had names etched into them by previous occupants, and the carpets were filthy. The kitchenette in a closet off the large foyer might have been interesting if it had been cleaned and updated. The microwave looked like it was from the mid-1980s, and I didn't trust the coffee pot or mini fridge enough to use them. There were no real amenities beyond two bottles of water and a couple of cookie packets. I could hear every conversation in the lobby across from my room, each time the front door opened, and all the noise outside. This part of London is quite out of the way, in a neighborhood setting. The building seems like a very old flat that needs a lot of repair. I've stayed in historic buildings before and enjoyed their history, and this isn't my first trip to England, which is probably a blessing. I shudder to think what a tourist might make of this on their first visit.

Abhishek at the service desk was excellent when I needed help with transport, attraction information, and finding the best way to get around. The location was lovely, with parks nearby, the British Museum just around the corner, and the West End close enough for the theatre trips I made during my stay. My room was serviced well every day.
