Norbury had plenty of green spaces and good transport links, and the owner was kind and helpful. The suite itself needed more attention, though. The bed fabric was badly worn, and the kitchenette only had two cups and two spoons, with no plates or glasses. The balcony was a letdown: no chairs, mould on the surface, and nothing to shelter you from rain. Inside, the shower worked, but its wall holder was broken, so we had to hold the showerhead by hand. For a suite with a balcony, I expected better care. There were some positives, but maintenance and basic amenities need improvement.

A rip-off. The pictures don’t show the guesthouse as it is now. There’s no reception, the fire exit was wide open, and the room door didn’t have a proper lock. After feeling unsafe for an hour, I moved somewhere safer. The bed was uncomfortable and broken, the bathroom tiles were broken, the mirror was scratched, and the toilet was blocked. My card had been charged three weeks before my visit.

The host was nice, and it’s close to the train station. I’d only suggest it if you need a cheap place to sleep. In summer it gets really hot, there’s no AC, and the room smells odd and gets traffic noise.

Friendly staff, and it had an Airbnb kind of feel. At least there weren’t any neighbours treating me like a cat burglar.
