The location was okay, but we didn’t bother trying breakfast after everything else. We booked out of necessity, and the stay was bad in just about every way. At the start, staff even argued with us that the booking hadn’t been paid, though we’d clearly prepaid. It was freezing outside when we arrived in winter, and our window was wide open with the heating off. Staff said they couldn’t do anything because the heating was centrally controlled, and claimed it would be warmer when we got back. At around 10 p.m. the room was still about 12°C, the radiator was cold, and we were again told to put up with it. After a long, exhausting discussion, we got a different room. The heating was on full blast, but its window had also been left open, so it was chilled through. The ceilings were very high, and by the next morning it was still freezing. We had to sleep fully dressed. They called the triple room an “upgrade” because our original room was a twin, which was absurd and didn’t feel like an upgrade at all. They later gave us a portable heater, but it was so old and dirty that we were afraid it might not be safe to use. The photos show the room’s terrible condition. It was dirty, old, broken, and disgusting. The furniture was worn, the walls and bed fabric were stained, paint was crumbling, and everything looked neglected. The wardrobes were in awful shape too, and the room felt unhygienic and miserable. After reading other negative reviews, I agree with them completely. I would never stay here again. Calling it a hotel is far too generous, it’s a rundown, neglected building.

A typical Victorian place in a nice area. The basic breakfast is self-catered, and the bathroom was a little small. It was fine for me as a solo traveller looking to crash after a few beers, and I’d stay again.

We only booked because nothing else was available, but thankfully found a nearby hotel at the last minute after leaving at midnight. I spotted three bed bugs on one of the beds. The lack of cleanliness is beyond anything a low price can excuse. This is a hostel at best, and shouldn’t be sold as a hotel. The place is so neglected that I don’t think cleaning alone can fix it. It needs gutting.

The breakfast was sparse, just toast, instant coffee, butter, and jam. The hotel is quite far from the subway, and very run down. My room was tiny and crooked, the bathroom barely a square metre, and whether it was clean is debatable.

The staff were kind and their service was great, which helped make up for facilities that were questionable. Bring shower shoes. It’s not pretty, but it gets the job done. I was there for one night, and carrying a lot of luggage, the walk from Russel Square Station felt like a lot. Still, not bad overall, 3/5.
