We arrived around 8pm after travelling from the USA and slept late because of the time difference. We put up the do-not-disturb sign early in the morning. By 11am GMT, someone had pushed it under the door. I noticed and put it back on the handle, but it was pushed under again. Housekeeping didn't seem concerned about our rest. When we went out around 12:30pm, the room still hadn't been serviced. We had to call reception for towels and toilet paper because there was no spare roll, just one that was about a quarter used. This wasn't the service we usually get at Holiday Inn Express in the USA.

The fire alarm went off at 1:15 at night and rang for 15 minutes, with no explanation given to guests. The hotel has eight floors, and four lifts seemed to be out of service all the time.

The heating worked fine, and noise wasn't an issue in our street-facing room. The bed was too soft, though. Rooms are basic, but still good enough, and there's nothing else to complain about. It's a good place for a few days in London, conveniently close to Old Street station. Breakfast is plain and doesn't have much variety, but it's better than nothing and fine for a continental breakfast, with cereal, pastries, and milk. I'd recommend it for an uncomplicated short stay.

The staff are kind and helpful, and the rooms are spacious and nicely decorated. The location is great too, near restaurants, bars, and public transport. Our room wasn't the cleanest and had a few maintenance issues that could be fixed. There are no safes in the rooms for valuables.

Every date I tried to book online showed no availability, and the front desk number was disconnected. I believe the hotel is closed and operating under private government contracts.
