The location is genuinely excellent for exploring London, and the staff were friendly and welcoming throughout our week over New Year’s Eve. We did have a pleasant stay, but our room faced the hotel’s rubbish area, which was disappointing given the hotel’s reputation and location. On New Year’s Eve, a visible manager in the evening would have been reassuring during the busy period. We weren’t able to access or see the fireworks as hotel guests, and when we left, nobody gave us the wristbands needed to return to the area. With children, we ended up walking a long way in the cold through a crowded, blocked city. Fortunately, someone kind in the lobby invited us to watch the fireworks with our children. It became a magical moment we’ll remember fondly. Better organization and clearer communication would make this easier for guests. Breakfast was also quite expensive for what was offered. A buffet would be a real improvement and fit the hotel’s standard better. This is a very well-located hotel with a welcoming team, and some changes to the organization could make stays during major events smoother.

I stayed for a week, and it was worth every penny. The hotel handled my birthday really well, and the breakfast crew was amazing. Justin at the front desk sorted out a room upgrade and handled all my requests, while housekeeping did a great job with turndown service. Would recommend it 10/10.

We brought our two boys from the U.S. to London in the second week of December to see the Christmas lights and experience an English Christmas. One moment that stuck with us was when a staff member gave our son a Roald Dahl book at breakfast. It was such a thoughtful surprise, and he’s been enjoying it ever since. We travel internationally six to eight times a year, so context matters to me when I review a stay. This one was fantastic. The rooms were clean, nice and updated, and the location along the Thames couldn’t be better, especially at Christmas. It made walking around London easy. Check-in went smoothly, and the staff were attentive and welcoming from the beginning. We ate breakfast at the hotel every morning, and it was a solid offering. The breakfast staff were excellent, friendly, attentive and great with kids. We’d happily stay at Marriott County Hall again and recommend it, especially to families.

The hotel’s gym and 25-meter pool were outstanding, unusually large and high quality for a city hotel. Room service was fast and very good, the minibar was well stocked, and the Molton Brown bathroom products were a nice touch. Cleanliness was impeccable in our room and the common areas we used. I’d seen other Google reviews mention cleanliness problems, but didn’t encounter any myself. Breakfast at Gillray’s was generally good, though the à la carte dishes became repetitive after a few days, and some breakfast staff were inattentive. Our first room faced Belvedere road and was extremely noisy, especially over the weekend, with cars and motorcycles racing and showing off late into the night. After two sleepless nights, we moved to an inner courtyard room. It was much quieter, but the view was disappointing: the courtyard was dirty, with visible trash and clutter, which wasn’t what I expected of a five-star hotel. Communication around New Year’s Eve was poor. We had dinner booked elsewhere, but nobody clearly explained that we might not be able to leave the hotel at certain times. We only got the wristbands needed for hotel access from the receptionist after police outside had denied us entry. Staff didn’t do much to inform or assist guests proactively. Service overall was mixed: some people were welcoming, while others seemed irritated by questions and made guests feel like an inconvenience. The location is excellent for London’s main sights, many of which are walkable, and Waterloo and Westminster stations are close. But the noise, room views, event communication and inconsistent service left the stay short of what I expected for the high Christmas/NYE price.

The guided tour revealed details you can only experience in person, and I especially loved the hotel entrance. The bedrooms I saw were stunning, beautifully decorated and felt homely. This huge place has historic touches throughout, from the wallpaper and decor to the restaurants, and it all tells a story of British heritage. It’s beautifully adorned, about a 15-minute walk from London Waterloo station, with public transport access. It faces the London Eye and other spectacular London skyline views. The staff were professional and friendly. I attended an event here, and the food was tasty, though some dishes arrived a bit cold. I’d recommend it for meetings, events and getaways. Not sure what parking is like around there. 👌🏽❤️
