One Aldwych

This was my second time at the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory afternoon tea, and it was just as good. Pio and Uzundu were especially amazing, and the service and timing of the food couldn’t have been better. I’d recommend it for the gluten-free options too. They also have gluten-free choices for vegans and vegetarians, so you don’t feel left out. Thanks to the staff for making it such a special 30th birthday present for my friend.

The restaurant is spectacular, and it’s great that the entire menu is gluten free and works for people with intolerances. The staff are incredibly attentive and detail-oriented, making the whole experience feel special from start to finish. This hotel has real class and is also great for business meetings. I didn’t want to leave.

The atmosphere was warm and comfortable, and everything went smoothly from booking through to the service, which was delivered on time. The staff were helpful throughout. It feels like customer satisfaction matters here, and I left happy with the experience. I’d definitely return.

Breakfast upstairs in the restaurant was excellent, with a great selection and a lovely view over the lobby. Room service was good too, with a solid menu that included classics like fish and chips. The bar is beautiful, and the drinks were very good. We stayed several nights over New Year’s at One Aldwych and had a pleasant visit overall, helped by the boutique feel, excellent location and very friendly, professional staff. The doorman was especially good throughout our stay. There were some letdowns. The spa was okay but nothing special, and the pool and spa area felt a little neglected and underwhelming, especially around New Year’s. The water station was out of order, and the canisters were often empty. Housekeeping called at about 1:00 pm, then again a couple of hours later after New Year’s Eve, even though we had the “Do Not Disturb” sign on. It happened again the next day, which was genuinely disturbing and shouldn’t happen. Another odd thing: after I added my partner’s name to the reservation on arrival, the hotel started addressing me by her last name and issued the final invoice in her name, even though the booking was under mine. The hotel felt more like a high-end business hotel than a holiday destination. For a longer holiday, I’d probably prefer a larger hotel with more facilities. With a few updates, this could be a truly excellent place to stay.
