OYO Townhouse New England, London Victoria

The location was ideal for the wedding, just a short walk from the venues we needed, but that's the only good thing I can say. We stayed two nights. The staff were okay, though they were rarely at the desk, and things around the hotel were broken, damaged or not working. When I checked in, the toilet floor was soaking wet. Water had leaked through the bathroom tiles and discoloured the floor and trim, and the bathroom radiator was leaking too. The shower head was completely rusted and covered in limescale. Upstairs, the banister was held together with sellotape and moved when you held it, exposing screws, which was incredibly dangerous. Cleaning staff left dirty laundry and rubbish blocking the corridors. When we tried to leave our room, they watched us climb over and step around it instead of moving it or helping. I also had to ask staff to get me into my room because I couldn't work the lock. When they asked which room I had, they said, "Oh yeah there's a known issue with 22s door," but had still checked me into it. The key fobs for the outside doors weren't working, so we had to wait for staff to let us in whenever we went out. That would have been fine if someone were always at the desk, but often nobody was there and we had to wait for them to come back. I'm not a fussy traveller and don't need much from a hotel, but this was the worst value for money I've ever spent on accommodation.

We paid £600 for a room for three, and it was horribly dirty. The sheets were stained, as shown in the photos, and the bathroom was disgusting, with a filthy shower and unidentified things in it. There was mould on every wall. The TV and light didn't work. In short, everything was dirty and disgusting.

The location was perfect for walking to the palace, then on to Big Ben and the London Eye. Victoria station is only a nine-minute walk if you'd rather not go far, and there are plenty of restaurants and shops nearby in a picturesque neighbourhood and surroundings. They also let me check in a little early, which I appreciated, and the evening front desk clerk was very helpful, though I forgot his name. The room for two was small but fine for us and fair for the price, though we could have used more clothes space. It was clean, and the bedding and towels were clean too. They even provided extra bedding, which was nice since it was cold at night. The shower was very small and restrictive for body size. There was a lot of dust around the central fan, and pollen on the balcony after the windows had been left open, which made it an allergy fest. The metal fixtures were rusty and the curtains ripped.

The room was clean and comfortable, the staff were nice, and the price was affordable. It's very close to the city centre, so we were completely satisfied and I'll choose this accommodation again. One interesting bit, Churchill lived a few houses away.
