Rest Up London

We had a pleasant weekend stay in London with a group of friends. The rooms were clean, and the bus station right in front of the hotel made getting to the city centre really easy. We could hear quite a bit through the walls, though. It’s hard to tell if the walls were the issue or if our neighbours were just especially loud, since the noise seemed to come from only one room next to us. We enjoyed our stay.

The location makes getting around easy, with a bus stop by the gate and Elephant&Castle Tube station only a few minutes away on foot. I’ve stayed here on several trips to London and have always felt safe. It’s a hostel, so the rooms and facilities are basic, but they’re comfortable and clean enough, and breakfast is included. If you mainly need somewhere to rest and freshen up, it’s a good fit. I’d recommend it to anyone who wants to explore London on a budget and still feel safe and comfortable.

I’m a regular hostel guest in London and keep my expectations realistic, but my stay at Rest Up Hostel from Jan 19-23 in Room 301 was unacceptable. I’m still waiting for a full refund for both of us because basic hygiene and care weren’t provided. The biggest issue was the bathrooms. The bins on Levels 2 and 3 stayed overflowing for my entire stay. In the Level 3 men’s bathroom, two of the three toilets were blocked and covered in fecal matter for four days. The showers also weren’t cleaned: the same dirt and footprints were there from check-in through checkout. I saw a new guest assigned a bed with used linen still on it. It had been my friend’s bed before he checked out earlier than I did. I raised the problems with three receptionists, but nothing changed until the day before I left. Then only the toilets were dealt with; the showers were still filthy. One staff member said cleaning wasn’t done daily, which is shocking for a busy hostel. The conditions were so bad that my co-guest and I paid for a gym membership just to use clean showers and toilets. I’m willing to update this if my refund request and request for a goodwill gesture are handled professionally. Until then, I strongly advise travellers to stay somewhere else.

Jordan and Tony were especially kind and helpful, and the service throughout was excellent. My friend and I also found the room and the hostel very clean. The nightly rates were reasonable, and there’s a bus stop right outside. We were really pleased with our stay at Restup and would definitely return.
