We were in town for the ovo arena, just a few minutes’ walk away, so the location worked perfectly. Our first-floor room at the front did mean London traffic noise overnight. It was comfortable, and the traffic isn’t the hotel’s fault, but ask for a room away from the main road if you can. For over £200 a night, we expected more. We also had to pay a non-negotiable £50 deposit on arrival, which we hadn’t been told about. We drove to what we thought was the hotel car park, only to find a building site behind the property. The hotel said parking was unavailable because it had to be booked ahead and was full. That requirement wasn’t on the website or booking confirmation. We found pay-at-machine parking, which happened to work for our late arrival and early departure, but it had a four-hour maximum stay, so wouldn’t suit most people. The bath had no plug, which wasn’t a major problem, though we enjoy a bath since we don’t have one at home. Hot water took a long time to come through, and there was no hand soap, so I used the little bottle of shower gel. Breakfast was confusing. Nobody greeted us or explained where to sit or what was available. There was no menu for cooked options, just a sad-looking buffet with toast, a few cereals, and croissants. We had to ask the woman behind the bar about a full English. Because of my dietary requirements, I couldn’t have one and had to request two eggs and two bacon instead. They didn’t explain what the full English included or ask how we wanted our eggs. My scrambled eggs came alone and stone cold; my partner’s full English with a fried egg was fine, but not great. We had no time to send mine back, so I took a sausage and some bacon from his plate. We wouldn’t return.
The staff were friendly enough, but management was nowhere to be seen. We raised all the problems and followed up with many emails and calls, but got a talk-to-the-hand response. The manager remained invisible. We barely slept. The room had awful noise insulation, and a humming sound in the walls went on all night like torture. It wasn’t the air conditioning; we switched that off. The in-room fridge also made noise. Mattresses were uncomfortable, facilities were very poor, and breakfast was so low quality it was nearly inedible. They call this a four-star hotel, which is laughable. Even one star would be a stretch. Don’t stay here.
We paid €257 per night for three nights at hotel St George Wembley during the busy period for a concert and football game, and left a £50 deposit at check-in. At that price, I expected cleanliness and something luxurious. Our room was run-down, neglected, and dirty. The covers and sheets were unclean, the carpet was filthy and stained, the furniture was old and damaged, and the bathroom toiletries shelf looked almost moldy. I took photos soon after entering the room, just after our 5 p.m. check-in, and attached them as evidence. I tried to contact the hotel directly by email but got no reply. I’d like someone to take action about the room, and I’d be happy to send the photos to show its condition.
The full English was the letdown. It tasted like it had been cooked in old oil. Everything else was very nice: a spacious room with plenty of amenities, friendly staff, and a central spot near lots of shops and entertainment. I’d definitely stay again.
It was so hot in the room, about 29°C, and there was no way to turn the lights off. The place felt like a pressure cooker, the closet looked ready to fall off after one sneeze, and the carpet was covered in stains. If you want to be near the stadium, this isn’t the place. Better off going home.
