We booked at the last minute for an impromptu London trip and were so pleased to find this hidden gem. The location was great, and we’ll definitely be back. Our room was small but had everything we needed, with a comfy bed. The staff were fantastic, welcoming and attentive. Breakfast was delicious, especially the granola, and there were fresh pastries, porridge, bread, cheeses and meats. The bar had a great range of interesting wines and cocktails. We also enjoyed a late-night drink on the private roof terrace for guests.

The Buxton is a lovely old pub with hotel rooms upstairs, and the service is where it really shines. Before my one-night December stay in Room 4, I got an email asking about special requirements. I mentioned I can’t eat gluten, and on arrival they told me they’d bought a loaf of gluten free bread so I could have toast at breakfast. It was a simple, thoughtful touch that made a massive difference. The room was a cosy double, perfect for me travelling solo for one night. It had everything I needed: a gently playing radio, widescreen TV, Nespresso coffee machine, kettle, water bottle, and somewhere to hang clothes, though there were hooks rather than hangers. The location was quiet, away from busy Whitechapel Rd, but right on the corner of Brick Lane, near street art, cocktail bars, a 24 hour beigel shop and some of London’s best curry restaurants. Would I recommend The Buxton? Definitely. Would I stay again? Definitely!

The staff and breakfast were the highlights, and the terrace is great. It’s a handy spot for spending time around east London. The bed was comfortable and the shower was hot, though the room itself was only okay. The carpet could definitely be cleaner, and the floors could use an update. If Mama Shelter is around the same price, its rooms are much better. When the price gap is noticeable, I’d choose The Buxton.

A lovely, intimate place to meet friends. We sat on the high stools at the front of the bar, and the bartender was so kind that they gave us a dessert to share on the house. The Buxton on Brick Lane is a wonderful little pub, and the service was great. We’ll have to come back.

The staff are what make this place special. Everyone was really friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was delicious. The raisin croissants are especially good. They also keep a fresh bowl of fruit available, moving it to the guest lobbies after breakfast so you can help yourself later in the day. The rooftop has a lovely city view and feels cozy in the evening, just right for taking up a glass of wine. The rooms are small, but have what you need if you mainly want somewhere to sleep. There are several Underground entrances nearby, and Spitalfield Market is an easy walk away. I’d stay again.
