Our wedding at Chelsea Old Town Hall went perfectly, and the garden suite at the Chelsea Townhouse made a beautiful place to get ready. There was lots of natural light, and the cherry blossom tree on the balcony was perfect for photos. We took most pictures in the garden and right in front of the hotel, and they all came out amazing. Room service arrived quickly, including several rounds of coffee for everyone getting ready. The staff were lovely and helpful all through our stay, especially Christian and Alex. Thank you for everything!

The food was tasty and well prepared. We had soup, lamb shepherd’s pie, then a good herbal tea. It's a calm, quiet place close to the busier parts of Chelsea, with the cosy feel of a traditional British townhouse, nice for a relaxed meal. I think daytime might be even better, with the natural light and view of the garden out front.

The staff were friendly and courteous, and the location is convenient for exploring the city. Still, I found the experience frustrating because the hotel's five-star marketing doesn't match the stay. I'd place it closer to three or four stars. Guests expecting a genuine luxury experience are likely to be disappointed, though it may feel acceptable if you think of it as a mid-range hotel. We stayed here at the end of a two-week trip through London and Marrakech, after earlier stays at The Lanesborough in London and Royal Mansour in Marrakech. Those are genuinely five-star properties and gave us a clear comparison. Arrival felt underwhelming. There's no doorman or luggage ramp, so bags have to be carried up several stairs. I went in to ask for help while my companion waited outside with the luggage. A front desk staff member did come out, which I appreciated. Check-in was efficient, with water and oranges available for guests to serve themselves. We booked a room with a separate bedroom and living area. The fireplaces in rooms that have them are decorative, not working. On the first evening, our room door wouldn't lock as we were leaving for a dinner reservation. That dinner was the main reason we returned to London, so being on time mattered. It took around 20-30 minutes to sort out, and we arrived late. The restaurant accommodated us, but dinner felt rushed. The following evening, we saw a small mouse in the communal dining area near the lobby. When we checked out for the airport the next morning, the elevator wouldn't open on our floor. I had to take the stairs down, enter the lift from the ground floor, and select our floor from inside before it opened properly. These problems caused delays and unnecessary stress, not what we expected from a hotel presented as luxury.

The place presents itself as a five-star hotel, but the fire alarms and how staff handled them left me baffled about that rating. I spent two nights here alone, hoping for a peaceful break in Chelsea. I arrived around 1pm, and the staff kindly let me check in early. After I napped, a fire alarm woke me. The front desk called it a false alarm. Later, the manager said the weekly test had caused it, but nobody had told me at check-in. On the second night, the alarm woke me again at 2:35am. Someone banged on my door and told me to open up for an investigation because my room had triggered it. There was no peephole, so I opened the door a little, confused and scared. It was a member of staff, who said it was a false alarm and I could go back to bed. I called reception to check that he worked there and ask what was happening. They said my bathroom had triggered the alarm, but staff hadn't checked it. They said, “I could tell it was a false alarm when you opened the door”. I later asked my travel agency to check with the hotel because I felt unsafe and confused. They told me the staff member hadn't shown ID because he thought I would recognize his face. The next morning at checkout, a staff member asked me to wait because a colleague wanted to say hello. The manager then took more of my time when I was exhausted and had already said aloud that lack of sleep had given me a high heart rate. The arrogant communication and faulty fire alarm left me wondering how this place got a five-star rating. Probably the worst place to stay in peaceful Chelsea.

I photographed a wedding morning here recently, and it made a lovely place for getting ready. From a photographer's point of view, the elegant interiors, flattering light, and bright, calm atmosphere create a peaceful start to the day. That seems just right before a couple's celebration begins. I'd recommend it to couples looking for a stylish, serene spot to start their wedding day.
