The Clermont London Victoria

The cream tea was generous and delicious, with finger sandwiches and cakes that easily filled the two of us. It may be the best cream tea we've had in a long time. The smoking cauldron and other Wicked touches made it feel special for the occasion. We came for the Wicked Afternoon Tea for Two using a Virgin experience voucher. The Clermont is a well established, beautifully presented hotel, and the airy dining hall felt modern and cosy, with comfortable seats and plenty of space between tables. We had a nice spot by the window, and the table service was attentive and flawless. Highly recommend.

After we explained what had happened, we were moved the next morning to a larger fourth-floor room, which we appreciated. There were still issues: visible stains on the carpet, a tiny toilet with poor ventilation, and peeling paint around the window seal. Later, despite switching on the “make up room” light, we came back around 3:30pm to find the room untouched. The housekeeper said she was very busy and couldn't manage a full clean, but offered to take the rubbish and change the towels when I asked. Reception said housekeeping should be available until 6pm, and the room was eventually cleaned after we returned that evening. We'd come back after enjoying our 2021 stay and chose the hotel for its location. We arrived just after 3pm and were first told our room was ready, then a receptionist apologized five minutes later and said the keys would take another 30 minutes. With two young children, we waited over an hour before getting a first-floor room facing the main road. The manager kindly gave each of our boys a teddy bear for the delay. A friendly room service staff member helped make up the sofa bed in the very small room. Even with the comfy pillows we chose from the menu, traffic noise kept us from sleeping much, despite the double glazing. The location is excellent, but after this stay I'm in no hurry to return.

The only real drawback is access: every entrance and exit has stairs, so it isn't accessible for wheelchair users. Otherwise, I had a delightful day. The staff clearly care about their guests, and everyone was charming, helpful, and polite. The bed was very comfortable and the room was lovely. Even with a busy hotel near a station, I heard almost nothing, just a slight rumble of traffic. The service had an old-fashioned feel, and the location was ideal.

The breakfast team are so friendly, they make a London trip feel that much more special. I also want to thank Florina and the rest of reception for always being there for guests. They're exceptionally kind and helpful, and nothing seems like too much trouble. I always have an amazing stay here, and the location is great.
