The Gate London City was a great base for our two-night stay, and I'd happily return. My Dad and I had a one-bedroom room with a really useful, well-equipped kitchenette. It had appliances, a coffee maker and kettle, a couple of tea bags and coffee pods, plus a fridge stocked with a large bottle of still water, sparkling water and a little milk. They'd also left a sponge and washing-up liquid. Soap, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner were supplied too. The towels weren't changed during our stay, which was fine by us. The staff, including housekeeping, were welcoming, helpful and accommodating. We also enjoyed the relaxing lounge on the fifth floor, where tea and coffee are complimentary. Algate East subway is about a two-minute walk away, with connections across London and one stop from Liverpool Street station and the Stansted Express. Across the road there's a lovely shop with fresh fruit and cooking essentials, and they give you 10% off if you show your room card. Thanks again!
We booked this hotel for a shoot with friends and stayed overnight. The apartment was clean, comfortable and roomy, with a lovely bathroom and a really spacious shower. Great views from the higher rooms too. I had a lovely experience.
We picked this hotel for my girlfriend's 30th birthday. The staff were friendly, the place was clean, and we really enjoyed breakfast and the complimentary coffee. It's east on the Circle line, so still more or less central, though getting anywhere by metro takes about 30 minutes. You're between Banglatown and Tower Bridge, with good places to eat all around.
The view from our 17th-floor room was breathtaking and made the stay memorable. We slept well in the comfortable beds, and breakfast had plenty of variety and was more than enough. The location worked well too, with the subway easy to reach and lots of good restaurants just around the corner. Staff were friendly and attentive from our smooth check-in through checkout. The room was generally clean, complimentary water was a nice extra, and the team helped whenever we asked. We also appreciated getting fresh towels on request. A wonderful stay at this aparthotel, and we'd happily come back.
The art is nice, but what matters is getting a decent night's sleep, and that was impossible for us here. The rooms are tiny and stuffy, the air conditioning barely cools them or clears the air, and I woke with a headache each night. I dread to think what it would be like in summer. Our first room had no desk despite the listing, and the desk in the second room was tiny. There was hardly space to get through the bathroom door. At the front desk, staff hang around in the lobby, with their laptops facing out so guests' names and room numbers are visible. That doesn't seem GDPR compliant or safe. The area felt horrible, and there was nowhere we felt safe wandering to for dinner, though Aldgate East tube is a convenient five-minute walk away. I can't see how this could be a four-star hotel. I suspect the reviews mentioning staff by name are fake. Don't stay here.
