The Guardsman

The location made it easy to explore London, and the area felt quiet and elegant. Reception staff were warm and accommodating throughout, always ready to help. Our room was beautifully designed, comfortable and immaculately clean. We were on the second floor beside the lift, so its bell was sometimes audible, but it was a minor nuisance and didn’t spoil the stay. We’d happily return and recommend it.

I’d recommend this place if you want some luxury without spending your life savings. The rain shower, heated bathroom floor and thoughtful little touches were great. My standard room was small but felt luxurious, with lovely decor and great pillows. The bed was neither very soft nor firm. The minibar filled the fridge, leaving no space for water or my own things. I liked being welcomed with tea in the comfortable drawing room while the staff brought up my large bags. My request for a quiet room was clearly respected. On the last night, some people kept going in and out of their room for about 30 minutes, so I called the desk. They dealt with it quickly and professionally. Just be aware the room was small.

Room service was reasonably priced and came in decent portions. We didn’t try the restaurant or bar. The rooms were spacious, clean and finished to a high standard, and the staff we met were friendly and professional. I especially liked the large bath with its retractable wall, which made it feel connected to the room. The decor was tasteful, and after the busy London streets the hotel felt calm. It’s in a great area, with easy access to the Victoria and Circle/District lines. We’ll look to stay again.

Buckingham Palace and Harrods are within walking distance, as are plenty of pubs and restaurants, and the Thames isn’t too far either. We had a great two-night stay at The Guardsman. The rooms were a good size and very clean. Staff were helpful, and the downstairs bar and restaurant was a nice place to chat over a beer. I’d recommend it for a couple of nights in London.
