We enjoyed the stay, and getting around was easy. The hotel is in a quiet neighbourhood with nearby buses that take about 30 minutes to reach central London. Our room was comfortable and nicely decorated, just above a welcoming pub and restaurant that gave the place character. The bathroom was practical and well designed, with handy USB-C charging ports for travellers without British socket adapters. The only small issue was the thermostat: it didn’t work quite right, and the room was a bit cold on the first night.

The room was quiet enough for a good night’s sleep, very clean and tidy, with a big bed, supplied water and an excellent coffee machine. Check-in was quick and easy. The location is a little off the main area, but otherwise good. We’d recommend it and would return.

Georgia and the team were very helpful, and the food was fresh, tasty and covered a wide range of requests. We held a function in the pub for 50 people and used the media system. The menu and other details were just as agreed. Thanks very much!

The dining room worked perfectly for our work Christmas party. The food was amazing, and it all arrived hot, which is no mean feat for 45 people. The Hanbury is a proper old pub, much larger inside than it looks from the street. I can highly recommend it and will be back.

I found several strands of hair in my meal towards the end of dinner on Monday 21st July, 2025. I was more than halfway through, but lost my appetite and didn’t finish. My two companions saw the hair too, though their food seemed unaffected. The cost of my meal was eventually removed from the bill, but the way the issue was handled left a very sour impression. Our party of three was the only group eating. There were only a handful of people at the bar and at least three front-of-house staff, yet no one checked on us or asked whether we wanted more drinks. Staff brought our food and the condiments we requested, then didn’t reappear until nearly 90 minutes later, when it was time to pay. When the plates were cleared, I told a staff member about the hair. She gave a shy smile, showed no sign that it was a problem, finished clearing the table and went back to the bar. A few moments later she brought the bill without mentioning it. When I asked what she was doing about it, she said nothing, because there was nothing she could do. She went to fetch the manager, who I believe is also the head chef. He asked what was wrong, then berated me for not reporting the hair immediately. I explained I’d only found it halfway through the meal and had told staff as soon as anyone approached. He also scolded me for supposedly demanding not to pay, though neither I nor my companions had mentioned money or made a demand. We were asking for the Hanbury to acknowledge there’d been a problem and explain how it would be dealt with. He said he hadn’t seen the hair himself, so there was nothing he could do, though normally he’d offer to replace the dish. I explained that after finding the hairs and losing my appetite, another meal wouldn’t have helped. He then angrily and abruptly said he’d recalculate the bill and remove my meal. My friends, family and I used to go fairly regularly when it was the Hanbury Arms, pizzeria. The new version, The Hanbury, has lost our favour and won’t be on our list of local places to eat or drink. Very disappointing.
