The maids were friendly, but they were the only staff we found welcoming. For three nights, our room wasn’t serviced unless we asked, and even then the housekeeping was poor. There was no concierge or luggage help, either, which seems like basic service for a five-star hotel. The heated pool, one of the main reasons we booked, was broken the whole time, so we couldn’t use it. Breakfast was very average, and doors kept banging at night and disturbing our sleep. The hotel felt odd overall and didn’t meet its rating or our expectations. It seemed more like a three- to four-star place at best. I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re after five-star luxury, and I’m genuinely confused about how it got a five-star rating.

The Town Hall hotel seems to take a hands-off approach, especially when guests try to recover items left in its secure storage. It’s a fine enough hotel until you make the mistake of leaving your headphones there. I tried to get them back and even arranged for Royal mail to collect them, but the staff acted as if helping with the lost property was an outrageous administrative burden. If aloofness counted as a concierge service, this place would earn five stars.

We shot a wedding in the Council Chamber room, and it was a beautiful space in a great location, with lovely light and a great backdrop for photos. There was a full house with lots of guests, and everyone fitted perfectly. The front steps are great for confetti shots, formal photos, and portraits of the Bride & Groom. Staff were lovely and attentive throughout the day. Thinking of getting married at the Town Hall Hotel? Oh please Go. For. It! Can’t wait to come back next year. :)

The pool was enjoyable and the hotel is in a good location, but the room felt bare and underwhelming for a £300 Saturday night in a luxury hotel. The hotel’s “luxury loosened” idea suggests a more relaxed, minimal style, but the space still lacked design detail, felt tired in places and seemed due for an update. With no bath, the room felt limited for the price. My husband booked the two-night stay for my 40th birthday. We’d stayed there for my 30th and really enjoyed it, so this visit was disappointing by comparison. The experience didn’t match the advertised standard, and I wouldn’t choose to return based on this stay. We sent our feedback directly to the hotel afterward but heard nothing back.

The room itself was lovely, with high ceilings, loads of light, a gorgeous bathroom and good amenities. Breakfast was served in a cozy little space, and I’d recommend the poached eggs on toast with yogurt. But what made our honeymoon weekend was Natalie. She gave us the warmest welcome we’ve ever had, looked after us so thoughtfully, and even checked how we were doing when we came back from the city. Thanks to everyone there for making the trip so special. Natalie’s especially close to our hearts. We’ll be back for our first anniversary.
