Travelodge London Chessington Tolworth

I'm usually not fussy about hotels. I worked in one before, so I can turn a blind eye to things other guests might not let slide, but this place still didn't impress me. It looked pretty worn down, and the lifts were quite dirty both times I used them, arriving and leaving. For some reason there was no hot water in the shower. The surrounding area and carpark didn't feel safe at night. The night receptionist seemed to be having a bad day and was very dry, though the morning receptionist was quite pleasant. I was here for one night because of a company booking.

Pets are welcome, and the hotel is quiet and clean, with comfortable rooms. It's close to Chessington World of Adventures, and the train station is about five minutes away for trips into central London. There's a good choice of food and drink shops and plenty of restaurants. The on-site cafe and bar have attentive staff, and the housekeeping team are lovely and work really hard to provide excellent service. Thank you for such a great job. Wonderful team. 5++

The staff were cheerful and helpful the whole time, and housekeeping clearly do a great job. My room was clean, tidy and had everything I needed for a short stay. It's a convenient base if you're visiting nearby places like Kingston or Surbiton. This budget-friendly hotel exceeded my expectations, and I was really impressed.

We arrived around 1am, exhausted and ready to sleep. After checking in, we went to our room on the sixth floor, took off our shoes and changed. Then we noticed our socks were soaked. My husband spotted it first, and I thought perhaps he'd got his shoes wet by accident, until I stepped onto the floor and my socks got wet too. The carpet in front of the cupboard was wet all over. There was no phone in the room to call reception. Since we'd already changed, my husband had to get dressed again and go all the way down to the ground floor. The receptionist could only apologise and give us a towel to put on the floor. Room service should have checked the room properly. When we checked out the next day, we asked to speak to the manager and were told they weren't available, but our complaint was written down and the manager would call after 3pm. I still hadn't heard back by 11:30pm.
