The staff were the best part, especially during food service. They were kind, hardworking, and went out of their way to help with meals and drinks. The food was good and there was a nice choice, though the cocktails listed on the menu weren’t available. I don’t know if that was just the timing of our visit or a permanent issue, but I’d seen another review mention it too. The room was decent for such a low price, and I can overlook some of its shortcomings. It was fairly clean, except for tea and coffee marks on the wall. The heating was the bigger problem: while it was freezing outdoors, the room was boiling and there was no way to adjust it. I’m not sure whether that’s normal or something was broken, but someone should probably have explained it. I hardly slept. I’ve run into this at another Travelodge, though that was in summer and there was a fan. I know comfort preferences differ and there may not be an easy fix. Greenwich station is right next door, which is handy for getting around. At night, though, people can get very loud right outside. It was especially noticeable on Friday, so be ready for noise if you leave the window open. Staff deserve credit; the rooms still need work, at least for now.
The location is handy, with the station nearby, and staff did help when the keycard system seemed to be down. The rooms were quite spacious, but there was nowhere to put things away. The room itself was freezing when we arrived. The window was broken on the first night, the beds had hair and stains, the sink was blocked, and there was no soap for showering. We could hear the people in the next room as though they were with us, and it was loud much of the time. Service was okay apart from someone knocking on our door at 1am every night and expecting an answer. Staff were helpful with our problems, but they took one of our used towels and gave it to another guest because they’d run out. That left one towel for three of us. The hotel advertises free WiFi, but it’s only 30 minutes per 24 hours on one device. Anything beyond that costs extra.
The staff were friendly and really helpful, and the room was a decent size for London and fairly clean. The bed was comfortable too, and the location was decent. The place feels worn, though. The radiator didn’t work, and there was an electric heater in the room that looked unsafe, with no PAT testing sign. There was no TV remote, and the soap dispenser by the sink didn’t work. These are inexpensive things to sort out, and fixing them would make the usually high price for a basic London hotel easier to swallow.
I barely slept because the replacement room let street voices and traffic noise straight through its poorly insulated window. The night before, I’d slept brilliantly in a similar hotel that was clean and quiet, so this really wasn’t good enough. I don’t usually leave reviews, but the first room smelled as if toilet fumes were leaking into it. I had to move, only to end up with the noise problem. Avoid.
The room was wonderfully quiet, which made our time together for a special occasion even nicer. We slept really well, and the service was friendly. Highly recommended!
