Travelodge Southwark

The staff made a real difference, especially manager Bhanu and head staff leader Nathan, who were so accommodating and went out of their way to make sure our stay was right. Everyone was warm and friendly. We could walk easily to the main tourist spots, which made sightseeing simple. A great location for families, and I'd happily recommend it for the service.

From the sixth floor we had a great view of The Shard, with several railway tracks below. We heard the trains now and then, but they didn't bother us. The room's air conditioning and heating were very welcome, and the staff were friendly and helpful. They even kept our cases after checkout. Southwark station is only about a three-minute walk away, and Borough Market is around fifteen minutes on foot if you carry on past the hotel. We also walked back from Leicester Square, which took about 40 minutes and made for a nice chance to explore. The area feels lively, and we'd definitely stay here again.

The location is handy for walking to most places, and we enjoyed the walk into the West End. Sleep was another story. The windows were awful, and in room 716 one wouldn't shut properly. Even with earplugs, the trains made it feel like one was running over you, so I got very little sleep whenever they weren't running. The bathroom in the 'super' room had a slight sewer smell, and the shower didn't drain. And why haven't Travelodge fixed those doors that slam so loudly?

There's a great pub opposite the hotel, with what I'd call the best burgers in town!!! A convenience store downstairs is handy for bottled water and snacks for the room. The hotel itself is good value and well placed for Southbank and Borough Market. Just know the train lines beside it make noise all the time. If you're a light sleeper, bring earplugs.
