White House

I didn’t stay at White House Hotel. I was sent to a worse rated sister-hotel around the corner. The room was boiling hot when we arrived, with no towels. It looked like a 1930s throwback, and though there was a double bed, the room definitely wasn’t a double room. It often vibrated, but I’m not sure if that was the nearby train line or the heavy traffic rumbling past. The window had to stay fully open because of the heat, and there was so much debris and rubbish outside it, see photo. Inside, the room was generally clean, apart from a dusty fan. The location was good, but it wasn’t worth the money, and I wouldn’t stay again. Breakfast was terrible. It definitely wasn’t continental: there was no milk alternative, only full fat cows milk, no hot drinks besides tea or coffee, and no fruit. The cramped room felt like a poorly organised prison canteen, with guests pushing around the tables. I’m lactose intolerant and can’t eat highly processed meat like ham slices, so I ended up literally having bread.

The price was fair for a room in a good location, and the bathroom was OK. It’s an area with a lot of noise, so don’t expect much sleep. The top floor is only for the superfit. The room needs a deep clean, with smears on the walls and stains on the dirty mattress. The cups are too small as well. Fine for a few days away.

I often use this budget hotel when I need a bed for a night in London for work. The location near Paddington station is great value, and the room is always clean and ready when I arrive. Early check-in is possible, and breakfast is included. Don’t expect a 5 star hotel, of course, but to me it’s a 5 star budget hotel.

The bathrooms had recently been redone and were much brighter and nicer than I expected. The room was small, as London hotel rooms tend to be, but the location more than made up for it. Paddington Station is only a two-minute walk away, making it easy to get around the city. I’m glad I chose the White House and would highly recommend it.
