The Belfray Country Inn

We celebrated our wedding here last week, and everything went smoothly to a very high standard. The setting and food were beautiful, and all dietary needs were accommodated. Our guests kept commenting on the food, service and staff. Geraldine, the in-house planner at The Belfray, was a pleasure to work with and made sure we had the right setting and that the entertainment ran on time. I can’t say enough good things about the place. Highly recommended, book with confidence.

Just reviewing the restaurant. My friend, who’s from Northern Ireland, said it was one of the best two meals she’s ever had and was thrilled with the Champ. My fish was delicious too, and the view was lovely. The dining room decor felt tired and a bit odd, but that mattered little over a tasty, peaceful meal in the countryside. Wine choices weren’t great, though the service was friendly.

The staff were fantastic from arranging our birthday dinner through to the evening itself. We had a wonderful celebration in the Bistro, and the food from the Occasions menu was outstanding, with very generous portions. Thanks for helping make it special!

The staff were really friendly, but the owners have them trying to deliver good service in a run-down place. Nobody asked how the stay was when we checked out. It’s absolutely not a four-star hotel, maybe a low three at best. The whole interior feels tired and needs a serious refresh, or to be stripped out and redecorated. Our bed sagged in the middle and was terrible. We got back very late, otherwise we would’ve asked to change rooms or moved to a better hotel. Bathroom floor tiles were cracked, shower hot water was inconsistent, and there was shampoo but no shower gel. We only had hand towels, no bath towels, and the TV was tiny. No coffee machine either, for a supposed four-star hotel. Really disappointing, and we won’t be back.
