The Sheep On Sheep Street

The pub had a cheerful, welcoming feel throughout the day, and the whole New Year’s celebration was a highlight. My boyfriend and I stayed and dined at The Sheep for New Year’s Eve. The team were friendly, polite and attentive, and handled my gluten allergy with real care, so I felt safe. The festive cocktails were original and tempting, and the food was beautifully presented, delicious and expertly cooked. Our bedroom was spotless and well kept, with lovely decor, a fantastic shower and a super-comfortable bed. We also appreciated the chocolate, freshly baked cookies and wax-sealed note on arrival. We had an outstanding stay and would highly recommend the hotel and restaurant for a memorable Cotswold getaway. It’s a gem in beautiful Stow-on-the-Wold, and we’ll definitely be back.

We all enjoyed our choices, and every dish was delicious. I had the Crab & Prawn Linguine, the best meal I’ve had in England during our five weeks in London from Australia. There were four of us, and the wonderful service made the evening even better. Everyone was friendly and hospitable, from the person who greeted us to the servers and even staff who weren’t serving our table. We felt welcome and were treated like VIPs. Our large dog got the same VIP treatment.

The place is gorgeous, with a perfect vibe, and the food is so fresh and tasty. I had the dumplings, my boyfriend chose chicken skewers, and the margaritas were awesome. The cocktails are made like you’d get at a diamond-level hotel. Liam and Harrison at the bar really know their stuff and will make your drink just right, while Simon the waiter is so friendly and nice. The website photos don’t do the place justice. Loved it!

Reception was lovely, and the rooms felt quaint and cosy. Breakfast was delicious, with staff who were always friendly and welcoming. But on two separate evenings, the rude, poor service in the restaurant left all of us with a sour impression of the stay. I’d recommend the hotel and breakfast, but I personally wouldn’t return to the restaurant for meals or drinks after breakfast. The lack of professionalism and accountability from staff and managers wasn’t worth whatever decent food or drink was served.
