The staff made the biggest impression on us. Everyone was genuinely friendly and had a professional, helpful attitude. The room was spacious, thoughtfully laid out, and spotless, and the whole place felt well looked after. A really welcoming, stress-free stay, and we'd happily recommend it.

I was travelling around the Wye valley with my 6-year-old daughter and had booked two nights at Deangate Motel. We left after the first because neither of us could get much sleep, and I ended up paying for another room elsewhere so my daughter wouldn't be disappointed. People were talking loudly, swearing and smoking right outside our window until 11pm, then the same sort of noise started again at 6:30am. At 6am someone warmed up a diesel engine in the car park beside the windows. A bright light by each window also came through even with the curtains closed. The beds were listed as two singles, but felt more like two children's beds, barely 800mm wide. The old coil mattresses were very cheap and offered no support. I kept waking every half hour in pain, with a stiff neck and numb arms. The room also had a pungent smell, possibly from pets or a heavily scented cleaner. I left the window open for more than three hours, but it didn't clear. I returned the keys at 9:30am, but they refused to refund the second night.

There's a spacious car park outside if you're driving. On foot, the station is about a 20-minute walk away, and the main High Street takes 10 to 20 minutes to reach. The room was large and clean, and so was the washroom. The shower got nice and hot. Staff were polite and welcoming, and they got my room key quickly when I arrived.

We had a lovely stay for Mum's 50th birthday, while visiting the Murder Mystery on the local heritage railway. The team made it feel special with flowers, balloons and a lovely chocolate cake. Breakfast arrived at the time we chose, delivered to our room, and was delicious. Our room was spacious, comfortable and exceptionally clean. There was step-free access at the front door, and the walk-in shower had just a small step at the tray, plus a non-slip mat. We're looking forward to coming back on our next visit.

Easy parking, a fair price, a comfy bed and a great shower. It was clean and quiet too. What more do you need?
