The setting is lovely, with well-fitted-out private dining areas, plenty of seating, and an outdoor dining space. We shared houmous, then had a burger and seafood bouillabaisse linguini with samphire. The chips were really good, and the prices were reasonable.
They made room for us on a busy Saturday night even though we turned up without a booking. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the food was delicious and thoughtfully served. The fact that it's a dog-friendly pub caught our eye, even though I don't have a dog. It says something nice about the place that they care about that. We'd like to come back, try staying overnight, and enjoy the place again.
The B&D gave our monthly Cookham Book Club a quiet, private space that felt welcoming. With a large group, it worked well to have the choice of table service or ordering drinks at the bar and paying as we went. Kieran was a brilliant host. We're looking forward to coming back next month, as booked.
The beer garden is spacious and very well kept, and the tables inside aren't squeezed together. We went for a Sunday Roast and found the place very nice inside too. The staff were so welcoming, polite, and friendly. My partner and I will definitely visit again, and we'd recommend it.
The location was lovely and the service was okay, but the food is so expensive it feels like you'd need to win the lottery to afford it. At night, the staff were extremely loud outside the room, banging the staff doors and showing little consideration for guests. I also think there may be a rat problem above room 1. All night I heard scurrying in or on the roof, and there might even have been one in the room.
