The morning after our wedding, the cooked breakfast was mostly lukewarm, though there was a good selection and the sausages were good quality. The coffee wasn’t anything special, just from a cheap machine. I ended up sitting in the dining area with a jumper on, shivering. The hotel was cold. Our wedding day itself was beautiful, and we’d picked this hotel as the perfect ending to our celebration. Instead, we ran into check-in problems and unhelpful reception staff, including a nasty, rude shift manager who leaned over the desk and pointed his finger in my face. The room was disappointing too, with dated decor, carpets and furniture. It was -7 °c outside, but the radiator was set to zero. I know times have been hard since covid and with the cost of living crisis, but a warm, welcoming room doesn’t seem too much to ask. It was nowhere near the luxury room I expected. We sat on the side of the old, ugly bed and shared the one hot chocolate sachet between us. The hotel experience tainted our special day, and we’ll try not to remember that part of the wedding. The next night we stayed at the Travelodge at Salford Quays, where we got a friendly smile, a warm room and a very pleasant night’s sleep.
The restaurant food was good, and the pool, sauna and gym were great. For £100 on a weekday night, it was good value. There was only one small bottle of water in the room, and the wardrobe door wouldn’t open. When I asked reception for more water, they refused and sent me to the machine near reception to pay for bottled water. That was disappointing. The hotel is nice overall, though old, and some rooms feel dated. The main areas and restaurants are reasonably well kept. It’s a taxi ride into Manchester City: my Uber cost £40 in 6pm traffic and £27 back at 11:30pm. With free parking on site, that offset what I’d have paid to park overnight in a multi-storey at a city hotel. For the price, I’d stay again. If you like golf, the simulator looks great, and I believe the course is good. Rush hour can get busy, but the hotel is well positioned for transport at the intersections of the “east lancs” road (A580) and M62. I’ve been here for conferences many years ago, and there were conferences happening during my stay too.
The country club has lovely views. I’ve been twice for company training, and the meeting rooms were spacious, clean, well equipped and quiet. It gets busy with golfers and business people. From what I’ve seen, it works well as a wedding venue for photos, as well as for meetings and golf.
The spa facilities were clean and easy to get to, and we slept peacefully despite the hotel being busy for Valentine’s Day. We had a lovely overnight stay at this welcoming hotel, with plenty of parking and a lovely room. Staff were helpful and very polite when we arrived. I’d absolutely recommend it to couples and families. It’s 20mins from Manchester City Centre.
The food in the restaurant was excellent. I was nearby for a business meeting and stayed overnight. The hotel was easy to find, with plenty of parking. The entrance is spacious, bright and welcoming, and check-in was pretty good overall. I had a lovely room and a comfortable bed. I’d be happy to stay again whenever work brings me around the Bolton area.
