Breakfast was a perfect 10/10, with lots of options for different tastes, and I couldn’t fault the cooked food. The man serving breakfast was on his own and very busy, but still found time for a chat and a joke. The staff were lovely, and we found the place intimate and comfortable, with a good atmosphere. Our room was decent, though pretty typical of a hotel room. It looked out over the back alleys, where we spotted the Rat and Pigeon pub, a nice little independent place. The location felt right in the heart of the city. One small thing, I like a cup of tea after a long journey, and there weren’t any tea making facilities in the room. I didn’t ask, since that might be usual for this hotel. There are lots of hotels to choose from, but we’d stay here again if we visit. We were extremely pleased with our stay.

We’ve already booked another visit. As two older women travelling together, we feel safe and welcome here, and the staff are friendly, helpful and make us feel valued. This is our fourth stay, three of them this year. The beds are superb, and the rooms are clean and comfortable. It can be noisy outside, but that comes with being right in the centre of Manchester. Breakfast is worth it, especially the high-quality bacon and sausage. The staff all seem to pitch in and help with whatever needs doing.

I wouldn’t stay here again. The sheets were dirty, the bathroom wasn’t clean, and the whole place smelled strongly of weed and mould. The hotel was very dirty, old and poorly maintained, with chipped and damaged walls and dirty windows. Even the staircase felt unsafe. I was told it wasn’t allowed to be used because it was apparently collapsing. I booked a twin room with one double and one single bed, as shown in the pictures, but got two single beds instead. When I asked if it could be changed, I was simply told no. I’m so disappointed that I wasted my money here. The pictures look nothing like the hotel.

The shower was a 10/10, almost too powerful, like a shiatsu massage. I’ve found water pressure in the UK pretty terrible, so I think it’s all at The Gardens Hotel. Breakfast was a fantastic selection for the price, and the full English was great. The room was standard but cozy, and I felt safe. There are broken stairs, though the elevator still works, and the hallways have a bit of a sewage smell. I’d boil the tap water to be safe. A good budget option close to Canal street. Thankyou!

Breakfast was a farce. I was told to help myself to the continental options, but nobody took my cooked breakfast order. After ten minutes I had to track down the man to ask, and by the time it finally arrived I didn’t want it anymore. It wasn’t busy, either, only two other people were there at 7:30. I stayed alone for one night. Check-in and checkout were quick, and the small room was clean, with a comfortable bed and plenty of fresh towels. The sink and shower drained very slowly, and there was a strange rotten smell in the lifts.
